چکیده

We describe a new aerogel threshold Cherenkov detector installed in the HMS spectrometer in Hall C at Jefferson Lab. The Hall C experimental program in 2003 required an improved particle identification system for better identification of π/K/p, which was achieved by installing an additional threshold Cherenkov counter. Two types of aerogel with n = 1.03 and n = 1.015 allow one to reach ∼ 10 proton and 10 kaon rejection in the 1-5 GeV/c momentum range with pion detection efficiency better than 99% (97%). The detector response shows no significant position dependence due to a diffuse light collection technique. The diffusion box was equipped with 16 Photonis XP4572 PMT’s. The mean number of photoelectrons in saturation was ∼16 and ∼8, respectively. Moderate particle identification is feasible near threshold.

Production of a New Generation of Silica Aerogel and its Application for the KEK B-factory Experiment

Low-refractive index silica aerogel is the most convenient radiator for threshold-type Cherenkov counters, which is used for particle identification in high-energy physics experiments. For the BELLE detector at the KEK B-Factory, we have produced about 2 m of hydrophobic silica aerogels of n = 1.01 1.03 using a new production method. The particle identification capability of the aerogel Cherenk...

We determined the electric form factor of the neutron G n E via the reaction d(e, e ′ n)p using a longitudinally polarized electron beam and a frozen polarized 15 ND 3 target at Jefferson Lab. The knocked out neutrons were detected in a segmented plastic scintillator in coincidence with the quasi-elastically scattered electrons which were tracked in Hall C's High Momentum Spectrometer. Study of Hypernuclei with Intense Electron-Photon Beams

In this letter, we propose to investigate Λ hypernuclei for the A 15 mass region by using pionic decay. The Project aims to determine precisely the binding energies of light hypernuclei, investigate production of exotic hypernuclei, and study impurity nuclear physics and the medium effect of baryons. ≤ These investigations will fully utilize the unique parameters (high intensity, small emittanc...
